The Essentials
6 October 2026.
Foreign visitors staying in Kenya for less than 12 months, arriving by air, land or water. Citizens of East African Community countries are exempt.
US$44 per person. System and gateway charges are added at checkout, so the total you pay will be slightly higher.
Your Checklist
No policy document is issued. Save your reference number and a screenshot of the “Valid” status, and carry a copy of your eTA.
Still Being Clarified
The rule was put into practice at short notice and some details are still moving. Two frequently asked questions:
Travellers with eTAs issued before the change have so far been reported entering Kenya without trouble, but official guidance is still to come. We strongly recommend you buy the cover through the official portal before you fly.
The portal does not currently let you upload a policy bought elsewhere. Keep your own travel insurance anyway: the government cover is a minimum and does not replace a full travel policy.
We will keep this page updated as official guidance arrives. Travelling with us? Our reservations team will help you with every step.
